Encouragement for Self-Published Authors

Here is some encouragement for self-published authors. We know the name of Duncan Hines from seeing the name on many products at the grocery stores. Did you know he was a real person? He was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1880 and grew up to become a traveling salesman. This was in the days before interstate highways and chain restaurants and hotels. He began self-publishing books on the best places to eat and stay or take vacations. The first of them was Duncan Hines, Adventures in Good Eating. It was featured in an article in the Saturday Evening Post. His popularity grew and soon recommended by Duncan Hines became a national seal of approval. Soon he and his friend Roy Park formed their own food company. They did so well that they were able to merge with Proctor and Gamble, a Cincinnati, Ohio based company and they began introducing cake mixes. As Paul Harvey would say, now you know the rest of the story.
